Introduction
Arrowhead Stadium was built after the NFL declared stadiums must seat no less than 50,000. At the time the Municipal Stadium had a capacity of around 35,000.
Construction of the stadium began in 1968 and originally would’ve shared a roof with a planned baseball stadium. This design was scrapped when it was found to be more expensive than originally thought meaning that an open-air stadium was built.
The stadium was ready for the 1972 season and had its highest attendance for a regular-season game of 82,094 against the Oakland Raiders.
During the 1990 season in a game against Denver Broncos, the Chiefs were threatened with a penalty unless the crowd quietened down. The Denver quarterback, John Elway, couldn’t make himself heard!

$375 million was spent on a renovation in 2010 it is almost 4 times the original build cost for the stadium.
In addition to hosting chiefs, college football is also played in the stadium with the Kansas Jayhawks and Missouri Tigers match attracting a crowd of 80,537 in 2007.
Arrowhead was also home to the Kansas City Wizards MLS side from 1996 to 2008 when they moved to CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
